CONTEXT
I
had just concluded my first semester of college and was fortunate
enough to find work at a prestigious marketing design firm. They handed
me the case study for a rebranding of the respected private university,
which is renowned for its engineering professions. They had already made
what they intended to present to the client, but they were curious to
see how I would do.
Polytechnic University of Puerto Rico (PUPR) is a private non-profit
institution granting degrees in engineering, architecture, landscape
architecture, land surveying and geomatics, and business administration. It
is located in San Juan, Puerto Rico's largest city.
Among institutions of higher learning in the United States and its
territories, the Polytechnic University of Puerto Rico graduates the
second largest number of Hispanic engineers. Today, more than 40% of the
graduating engineers in Puerto Rico are alumni of the Polytechnic
University.
I made five letter size pages of
25 logos each in two days. I went back to college and found out a few
months down the line that my logo was approved and officially became the
institution's identity symbol. The firm had reworked my logo marks but
the selection for a logo that was 100% mine was the eventual winner. I
am very proud of this achievement because I have gone on to see my logo
animated on attention-calling billboards, television, all throughout
Puerto Rico, in the press, and even in metal sculpture. Of all my
projects this one has the most reach, and it is a joy to have achieved
this so early on in my career. I am very proud of the duty my design
work has done for educational institutions and hospitals.
